Google Business Profile Listing Lock

Listing Lock watches your Google Business Profile around the clock and reverts edits you did not authorize, from changed hours to a swapped phone number to a competitor marking you permanently closed. Google lets any signed-in user suggest changes and applies some of them without telling you. Call (216) 294-2723 to set it up, or see the full range of Google Business Profile services.

Your listing is more editable than you think

Most owners assume the profile behaves like a website: you control it, and nothing changes unless you change it. That is not how it works. Google treats business information as crowd-correctable, so customers, competitors, data aggregators, and automated tools can all push updates at it. Some go into a review queue. Some go straight live.

The expensive part is not the edit itself, it is the delay before anyone notices. A wrong set of hours can run for weeks. Nothing breaks visibly, the phone just rings less, and by the time someone checks the listing the lost calls are unrecoverable.

Monitoring closes that gap. Every change is caught, logged with what it was and when, and reverted if it did not come from you.

What gets changed

All six of these are edits we have seen applied to listings that were not asking for them.

  1. Hours changed without you knowing

The quietest and most expensive one. Customers see closed, call someone else, and you never learn it happened.

  2. Marked permanently closed

A single accepted suggestion can flag a working business as closed. Traffic collapses immediately and recovery takes days.

  3. Phone number swapped

Lead-generation operators have historically replaced numbers on listings they do not own. Your calls route to somebody else.

  4. Address or map pin moved

A shifted pin sends customers to the wrong place and can break the location signals your ranking depends on.

  5. Categories altered

Categories decide which searches you appear for. An edit here quietly removes you from the results that matter most.

  6. Website URL redirected

Sends the traffic you earned to a page you do not control, and it is easy to miss because the listing still looks normal.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Can anyone really change my Google Business Profile?
Yes. Google lets any signed-in user suggest an edit to your hours, address, phone number, website, or categories, and it applies some of those edits automatically without asking you. "Suggested edits" is a public feature, not a security hole, which is why monitoring matters more than locking a password.
Does listing lock stop me from editing my own profile?
No. You and anyone you have given access keep full control. What changes is that edits from outside your team get caught and reverted instead of going live silently.
Who edits a competitor's listing?
Competitors marking a business as permanently closed is the version people expect. Far more common is harmless-looking noise: a customer correcting hours they misremembered, a data aggregator pushing an old address, or an automated tool syncing bad information from a directory. The damage is the same either way.
How would I know if my listing was changed?
Usually you would not, which is the problem. Google sometimes emails the owner and sometimes does not. Most businesses find out when calls drop off or a customer arrives after hours because the profile says they are open.
What does Listing Lock cost?
$30 a month, and you can cancel any time. It is a subscription rather than a one-off because the value is continuous: monitoring only helps if it is running on the day somebody edits your listing.
Does this prevent suspensions?
It removes one common cause. Unauthorized edits to name, address, or category are exactly the kind of change that triggers a re-review, and a re-review can end in suspension. It does not protect against a suspension caused by something already wrong on the profile.
